Society of Seniors Caring about Seniors (SSCAS)  780 465 0311

SSCAS offers transportation from your house directly to the door of your destination. Service is for low-income seniors over 65 years of age living in south Edmonton. Clients must be registered members and payment is made by tickets purchased in advance. Two business days notice area required. Not available evenings and week-ends. No wheelchairs.

Disabled Adult Tranit Service (DATS)

DATS takes reservation bookings three days in advance of travel, two days in advance of travel, and the day before until noon. Subscription bookings are available for trips required on a regular basis.  All passengers must be registered with DATS before booking trips. DATS fares are based on regular Edmonton Transit System fares and are approved annually by City Council. DATS users may pay the fare in cash (exact change), by ETS Adult transit ticket or by a DATS monthly pass. Cash fares and/or tickets are collected by the DATS operators. Pass holders must show their pass to the operator each time they travel on DATS.

Fares not accepted on DATS include the ETS Adult Monthly Pass, AISH Pass and Senior Passes.  More DATS information here.

LIFT Drive Happiness is an assisted transportation service for seniors with reduced mobility. We help our seniors with their groceries, accompany them to appointments and lend a friendly ear while driving. Like a trusted friend, we’re there to help with essential errands and give our seniors the lift they need—both literally and figuratively.

 Taxi Service

If you take taxis, you should be aware that the City of Edmonton Vehicles For Hire Bylaw states that “a discount of 10% may be given on the total fare displayed on the meter in a taxi or accessible taxi if the passenger is 65 years or older”. However, it is at the discretion of the driver. Most of these taxis companies have wheelchair accessible vehicles.

Yellow Cabs offers wheelchair accessible vehicles. Seniors receive 20% off when they purchase a $50 voucher book. Call 780-465-8533 for discount. Voucher books can be delivered free Tuesday mornings or mailed out. Vouchers are redeemable for Barrel, Checker and Prestige Taxis and Yellow Cabs as they are the same company.

Capital Taxi offers wheelchair accessible vans. Seniors receive 10% off when they purchase $25 voucher books. Call 780 468-4679 for discount. Ask about delivery of voucher book.

Co-op Taxi Line 780 425-2525

Co-op Taxi Line offers wheelchair accessible taxis (call 780 423-9131) and specialty vehicles with wheelchair lifts- give 24 hour notice for these specialty vehicles. Seniors receive a 10% discount with the purchase of $100 Co-op taxi coupons. Call 780 425-0954 for discount. Coupons can be mailed to the customer.

Alternative Transportation

These businesses pick up seniors from their homes and will deliver them directly to their destination; will also wait for them if needed.

Keeping Seniors Mobile offers transportation for occasional visits and appointments. Service is available week-days, evenings and week-ends. It will take walkers and wheelchairs if they can be folded up easily and put in the trunk.
