Healthy Aging Conversation in the Greater Beverly Area
Are you an older adult or care about seniors in your neighbourhood? We would like to share ideas as it takes a community to support the independence and well-being of our older residents. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It is widely known that physical and mental exercises can slow down the aging process. But did you also know that loneliness can be worse for one’s health than smoking? Loneliness is something all community members can help address.
Creating more age-friendly space for learning, exercise and socializing is one way a neighbourhood can collectively respond to this growing concern. Keeping an eye out for each other is another way neighbours can help neighbours. Intergenerational projects where participants contribute to each others’ well-being are also underway in Beverly. We use a community development approach that builds on existing communitystrengths. Sage, the Edmonton Public Library and the Rundle Health Centre want to learn from neighbours on how best to support your ideas as you can see the interconnections of complex issues. Together we can co-create viable solutions.
